Name of Project: Evaluation of the Safety and
Clinical Usefulness of Bupropion Hydrochloride (Zyban®) for
the Treatment of Cocaine Abuse/Dependence

Scope of Project: The purpose of the study is
to assess the safety and efficacy of Zyban (Bupropion Hydrochloride-300
mg per day) for the treatment of cocaine abuse/dependence. This
double-blind study randomized 70 participants to either placebo
or Zyban for a 16-week treatment period, and followed their concurrent
cocaine use at baseline, throughout the trial, and throughout
a four-week follow-up
period. All participants were also administered cognitive behavioral
therapy three times per week using a group format. Outcome variables
included urine drug screening, retention, reported adverse events,
and craving.
