Program at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon
Principal Investigator: David Farabee, Ph.D.
Funding Agency: University of California Institute
for Mexico and the United States
Funding Period: March 2003-April 2004
Scope of Project: In response to the growing
prevalence of illicit drug use in Northern Mexico and the ongoing
problems associated with the high prevalence of alcohol use, the
faculty of the UANL School of Nursing is in the process of developing
a formal curriculum to address substance abuse prevention and
treatment. This project (funded by UC-MEXUS) provides travel support
to facilitate collaboration between UCLA and UANL researchers
to develop a state-of-the-art curriculum for the UANL School of
Nursing doctoral program. In addition, this project will assist
UANL faculty to identify promising substance abuse intervention
strategies to be implemented in Monterrey and throughout Northern
Mexico by drawing from current research and clinical literature
from the United States and Canada.
