Name of Project: Establishing an Addiction Research Program at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon

Scope of Project: In response to the growing prevalence of illicit drug use in Northern Mexico and the ongoing problems associated with the high prevalence of alcohol use, the faculty of the UANL School of Nursing is in the process of developing a formal curriculum to address substance abuse prevention and treatment. This project (funded by UC-MEXUS) provides travel support to facilitate collaboration between UCLA and UANL researchers to develop a state-of-the-art curriculum for the UANL School of Nursing doctoral program. In addition, this project will assist UANL faculty to identify promising substance abuse intervention strategies to be implemented in Monterrey and throughout Northern Mexico by drawing from current research and clinical literature from the United States and Canada.
