Maria Zarza, Ph.D.

Dr. Maria J. Zarza obtained her Doctoral degree in Psychology at University of Madrid (2001). Dr. Zarza has an extensive experience providing development/program evaluation, organizational development, education, prevention and intervention services to improve minority women’s health. Dr. Zarza has extensive knowledge as a practitioner, educator and evaluator on minority women’s health issues related to substance abuse, domestic and family violence, HIV/AIDS/STDs and mental health. Her program evaluation and capacity building experience include national and international projects funded by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, SAMHSA, The Office on Women’s Health, the Center for Disease Control and the Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Zarza has received awards and recognitions for her services to victims of abuse and research with minorities. She is a Research Scientist Member of the National Hispanic Science Network on Drug Abuse funded by NIDA and a reviewer for a scientist journal. Currently, Dr. Zarza is working at the University of California, Los Angeles with other colleagues on a capacity building project funded by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to provide training on substance abuse treatment to 20 resource centers worldwide.
