General Summary

On September 5-7, 2005, prominent substance abuse experts from 22 countries gathered in Istanbul, Turkey, to share information on the substance abuse challenges facing individual countries and broader regions, to promote regional cooperation on substance abuse issues, and to discuss the integration of substance abuse treatment services with primary care, mental health, and social service systems in countries with developing systems.

The conference was coordinated by the UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs with co-sponsorship by the United States Institute of Peace, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, World Health Organization, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, United States National Institute on Drug Abuse, International Society of Addiction Medicine, and International Society of Addiction Journal Editors.
